Our students at the Thetford Academy were very keen to take part in the GO GO Dragons project, after seeing the success of our previous students’ entry for the earlierGO GO Gorillas project. It is an exciting prospect for students to see their designs, on a sculpture, in a Norwich shop window! It also makes the transformation from ‘school project’ to public art’, which adds huge credibility to our subject.
As much as we Art Teachers at the Thetford Academy look forward to seeing our entry on display in Norwich, we also anticipate the Dragon taking pride of place on show at School with the Gorilla!
Artist Mik Richardson visited Thetford Academy on 16 April as part of the GoGoDragons! education project. The students really enjoyed his visit & are now keen to practise the new techniques he has taught them. Mik has also painted 3 of the large GoGoDragons!, look out for his work on the trail from 21 June.
Dragon name: Cosmic
Dragon design: Our dragon, Cosmic, was designed by year 9 student, Chloe Hall. The designs were part of a larger mythology project in art. The Headteacher, Mr Ball, chose Chloe’s design from some amazing entries. Her dragon is inspired by deep space photo’s of the Cosmos (and they just happen to be in the Academy colours!)
Find “Cosmic” in the Little Red Roaster on St Andrews Hill from 4th July to 5th September.
Break Charity is very grateful to this lovely coffee shop for donating a prize to use at a future fundraising event & for holding a collecting tin for Break – ideal for any spare change when you are enjoying the dragon trail! Many thanks!
