Owen Wright – IndyGoGo500
IndyGoGo500 is sponsored by Mayday OES Ltd. and designed and painted by Owen Wright.
When the opportunity came along to get involved with the GoGo Dragon project, Owen knew it had to be a passion close to his heart, but also wanted to do a subject matter that had a connection to Norwich and Norfolk. Being a massive Lotus car fan from a young age he decided to produce a Lotus themed dragon.
IndyGoGo500 is a tribute to legendary racing driver Jim Clark and his 1965 Indianapolis 500 win driving the Team Lotus Type 38. 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Jim Clark’s win at the famous American race with Team Lotus, one of the most iconic racing teams in the world which were based at Hethel, just outside of Norwich.
Owen’s background is predominantly in engineering, with time spent in the automotive industry as a technician, but also working in specialist areas such as classic car restoration, kit-cars and bespoke projects. Add to this time in other engineering production industries, producing bespoke equipment – he has over 30 years experience of fabrication and design.
With a short break from engineering, around twelve years, time was spent working in graphic design as well as gaining an HND in Multimedia design along the way and receiving a commendation from City College Norwich for outstanding work.
Although this is perhaps going to be Owen’s best known work, many people may have seen his work already. As far back as 1993 Owen was winning 1st place awards for model making at the International IMPS(UK) show.
As well as Lotus cars being a passion, he’s also a big sci-fi fan, especially Star Wars. Every year since its construction in 2010 Owen has paraded his full size radio controlled R2-D2 with the Norwich Star Wars Club at the Norwich Lord Mayor’s procession to the delight of the crowds.
