Jessica Copping – Bajestic
Jessica is a Fine Artist from Norfolk primarily creating paintings and drawings from her imagination. She graduated in 2010 with a First Class BA (HONS) in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts and has spent the last 5 years working in the cultural and heritage sector in Norfolk. She has gained experience working at Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery and as a Art and Design Sessional Tutor for Norfolk Adult Education and has gained a qualification in teaching. She currently works at the Norwich Millennium Library, the Country’s busiest Library.
Since graduating she has continued to develop her artistic practice, exhibiting her work locally in Norwich and in London. Exhibitions include The Royal Society of Oil Painters and The New England Art Club Annual shows at the Mall Galleries in London and the National Open Art Competition Chichester. She will be moving to Glasgow in September to take up a place on a Masters course in Painting at Glasgow School of Art.
Jessica creates detailed miniature paintings and drawings by shaping wood or paper to create organic shapes, upon which she uses traditional methods to layer colour, light, and meaning. Recurring themes in her work are humanities relationship with nature, the state of the human spirit and the worlds we create in our minds and in reality. The internal landscapes she creates express meaning through the dichotomy between the mundane and fantastical, humanity and nature and the relationship between buildings and man. She sees her paintings as odyssey’s of the spirit, laid out in beautiful, fragile form, where darkness lurks in the light and light flickers in the darkness.
